Andrew Scott and Simon Stephens talking on stage at The Lyric Hammersmith.
It’s not every day that a BAFTA award winning actor and Olivier award winning writer get together to discuss acting, writing and their shared love for a collaborative project. As well as answering lots of questions posed on Twitter and Tumblr by Sea Wall fans,
Andrew and Simon cover an awful lot of ground. They talk about their respective crafts, where they draw inspiration from and amongst other things compare notes about the previously unsuspected parallels between teenage jobs stacking supermarket shelves and reaching the top of the theatrical profession.
We filmed the conversation just hours after Andrew heard that his performance as Moriarty in BBC 1’s Sherlock had earned a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Since then of course he has deservedly won the award itself.
Meanwhile Simon has already had two ground-breaking plays performed in London this year, with several more to follow – including his much anticipated adaptations of Ibsen’s A Doll’s House at the Young Vic Theatre from June 29th and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time at the National Theatre from July 24th.
As well as being essential viewing for lovers of Sea Wall, the extracts from this Q and A conversation piece provide a rare glimpse into the creative process and what makes two of our leading artists tick.
